Grid Converter Tool
The land division system used for describing the extent of oil and gas interests located in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut or in Canada's offshore area is defined in the Canada Oil and Gas Land Regulations (opens in new window). This land division system consists of a grid system divided into Grid Areas, Sections, and Units - all referenced to the North American Datum of 1927 (NAD27). This tool computes the NAD83 coordinates and surface areas for the corresponding NAD27 Grid Areas, Sections and Units.
Input required: The NAD27 geographic coordinates of the North East corner of the Grid Area in degrees and minutes. The Grid Area naming convention also uses these coordinates as the name of a particular Grid Area.
Outputs: The output will consist of a table showing surface areas and coordinates for each Grid Area and corresponding Sections and Units. A corresponding Extensible Markup Language (XML) file is also generated to facilitate its integration with other applications.
